Cura del Cashmere – How to Care for Knitwear

The Elegance of Cashmere, The Delicacy of Care

Gran Sasso cashmere is a precious and refined fibre, a living material that deserves gentle attention to preserve its timeless elegance. With the right care, your knitwear retains its softness, elasticity, and luminosity — season after season.

No need to fear the laundry: Gran Sasso explains the simple, correct steps to follow in order to keep your garments beautiful for years to come.

Understanding Your Cashmere

Pilling — the small, soft dots of fibre that appear with wear — are not a sign of poor quality. They are a natural feature of genuine cashmere, caused by gentle friction during use.

To help prevent excessive pilling, we recommend not wearing the same garment for several consecutive days, allowing the fibres time to rest and recover.

Every stage of care — from washing to drying — helps preserve the beauty and comfort of your cashmere knitwear.

Washing by Hand – Pamper It

To wash your cashmere:

  • Fill a basin with lukewarm water, adding a small amount of neutral wool detergent or a few drops of baby shampoo.

  • Immerse one garment at a time, turned inside out, and let it absorb the water gently.

Cashmere loves water — it’s a living fibre that renews itself with each careful wash. Gently massage the garment without twisting or rubbing.
Do not soak for more than five minutes to avoid colour loss.

Drying with Sweetness

After washing:

  • Lay the garment flat on a towel, roll it gently to remove excess water.

  • Reshape it and let it dry flat on a horizontal surface, away from sunlight or direct heat.

Avoid hanging, as this could distort the shape.

Gentle Ironing – or None at All

If the washing has been done correctly, ironing may not be necessary.

Should you wish to iron:

  • Turn the garment inside out.

  • Use a low temperature and avoid direct contact with the fibres.

  • Keep the iron about five centimetres away, or place a cotton cloth between the iron and the knitwear.
Allow it to cool completely before folding.

End-of-Season Storage

At the end of the season, wash and dry your cashmere items before storing them.
Place them in breathable cotton or protective bags, kept in a cool, dry place — ideally drawers or wardrobes with moth protection.

This care will preserve the beauty, softness, and longevity of every Gran Sasso cashmere piece, ensuring it remains a treasured companion for many years to come.
