From Raincoat to Fur

In 1948, young Giuseppe Marenzi and his wife, Alessandra Diana, saw the opportunity to found a company. From the very beginning, with the urgency and enthusiasm characteristic of post-war Italy, experimentation and innovation shaped Herno’s mission. Life by the lake and river inspired the creation of high-performance coats crafted with the exceptional quality that only Italy could provide. After raincoats came cashmere pieces, and over time Herno became one of the most renowned French and Italian brands. At Herno, quality and investment in production tools have always been priorities, firmly rooted in Made in Italy excellence.

Made in Italy

The value and excellence of Made in Italy products depend on the quality decisions made long before production begins. At Herno, these choices rest on the work of an in-house team: about 100 people, including stylists, tailors, models, and sales staff. Many of them started young, and some, fortunately, have been working here for decades — cutting, sewing, and passing on their knowledge and expertise to younger generations, preserving the secrets of Italian tradition with dedication and passion. This is how they ensure things are done well, the Italian way.

Protecting Nature

Preserving wildlife is of great importance to Herno. The down used to fill coats, as well as fur, shearling, and hide elements used for decoration, all come as by-products of the food chain and slaughterhouses. Herno does not kill animals and only sources materials in ways that do not harm living beings — giving new life to raw materials that might otherwise end up as waste.
